The U of R is a broad-based university with roots dating back to the founding of Regina College, a small boarding school established by the Methodist Church in 1911. The college grew in size and importance, becoming a campus of the University of Saskatchewan and eventually an autonomous degree-granting institution – the University of Regina – in 1974.
The U of R has:
- 10 faculties;
- 25 academic departments and schools;
- 18 research centers and institutes; and,
three federated colleges: First Nations University of Canada, Champion College, and Luther College. - In 2020, the University of Regina recorded its twelfth uninterrupted year with a one per cent increase in enrollment to 16,664 full-time and part-time students – a record number. Its tuition is on par with the national average and the university ranks second among all-inclusive universities in the amount of financial aid students receive – scholarships, grants and bursaries – as a percentage of tuition.
